Decades of chrysotile-asbestos mining in Quebec generated huge tailings of serpentine rock with 23.3% magnesium metal content, a highly valuable opportunity for metal extraction.
Alliance Magnesium Inc is a privately-owned Canadian company that has developed a patentedelectrolysis clean tech technology for the production of magnesium (Mg) from serpentine.
This revolutionary process will bring a worldwide paradigm shift in magnesium production, turning international environmental issues into economic successes.

Lightweight and low density
Magnesium has the lowest density of all the metal elements, making it the lightest, but is also very strong and easily manipulated for machine tooling. Mg is 34% lighter than aluminum, and 70% lighter than steel, making it a solution of choice for lightweight requirements in the transportation industry.

New car industry standard
A recent report from the United States Automotive Materials Partnership, estimates that by 2020, 250 pounds of magnesium will replace 500 pounds of steel and 90 pounds of magnesium will replace 130 pounds of aluminum per vehicle, resulting in an overall 15% weight reduction.

Greener technology
The Alliance Magnesium process is based on electrolysis, the cleanest magnesium production process available. In Quebec, electricity is mainly generated from renewable hydraulic sources. In addition, electricity in Quebec is a low-cost, very stable, reliable energy source. This overall process is in line with the Company’s overall sustainable development approach.

Enough raw material for 2,500 years
Alliance Magnesium uses serpentine rock (chrysotile-asbestos mine tailings) as a source of raw material.
These tailings are easily accessible and available in large quantities (800 MT of serpentine rock reserves) in the Danville-Asbestos/Thetford Mines areas. At 25 % of Magnesium metal concentrated in these tailings and a production of 50 000 Mt/year Alliance’s production is infinite.
