Asbestos, August 31, 2020 – On Monday, Alliance Magnesium Inc. (AMI) received an important visit from the Consulate General of Japan in Montreal to its plant under construction. This visit by the Deputy Consul General, Mr. Toshiharu Tarui, as well as the Vice-Consul, Ms. Mai Makizono, took place in the presence of the CEO of the company, Mr. Michel Gagnon, as well as the mayor of the city and prefect of the MRC des Sources, Mr. Hugues Grimard. Also present were members of the Consulate, Taichi Kuribayashi and Tomoo Shirabe, respectively President and Director of Marubeni Metals and Minerals (Canada) Inc., a Japanese company that owns a shareholding participation in Alliance Magnesium.
The Alliance Magnesium team presented its work that was done with passion and its achievements to the guests, who were very impressed by the size of the site and the infrastructure in place, but above all by the sustainable development principles put in place as well as the high added value created by the circular economy.
Marubeni Metals and Minerals (Canada) Inc. took the opportunity to remind the Consul of their company’s major involvement in Quebec in the development of light metals, whether through their participation at Alouette Aluminum and now at Alliance Magnesium. “For us, these industries are complementary and necessary to fight climate change. We believe that Quebec has big potential to grow.” said Kuribayashi, President.
For the mayor of Asbestos, Hugues Grimard, being able to welcome these dignitaries to the city he represents is an opportunity “to demonstrate the full potential of our community, all the innovation that our companies demonstrate.” He adds that he is “particularly proud of Alliance Magnesium, for its presence in the industry and for the notoriety that such a company allows.” He ended by thanking Marubeni’s contribution and reiterated to the guests that they were now at home and always welcome.
Alliance Magnesium’s CEO Michel Gagnon told the Consul and Vice-Consul that “it is a great honor to receive them and to be able to express directly our appreciation and recognition for the economic and social contribution of the Japanese company Marubeni to us.” He added that ” the values shared by our organizations can be used to create harmonious and fruitful relationships”.
